Gonia Chylinska, from GC Interior Design, won our Momo Instagram Mood Board Competition for April. She explains her inspirations and why handles can have a significant impact on the overall look and feel of a kitchen. Gonia also shares her holistic design approach, how she believes in designing around her clients lifestyle so that the environment can speak to who they are.

Tell us a bit about the mood board you submitted. Where did you draw your inspiration and was it designed for a specific project?

This moodboard has hues of a deep warming red, muted earthy tones and hints of brass that ground the overall tone. Its texture brings life to this traditional concept, infusing an ambiance of warmth and richness. Delicate details and intonations with subtle tonal differences add further visual interest and depth. Perfect for any design palette looking to provide a sense of elegant comfort and gentle nostalgia.

Would you base your overall design / styling around a specific kitchen handle or are handles an afterthought?

Kitchen handles are not just about functionality; they have a significant impact on the overall design and feel of the kitchen. Handles are playing an integral role in achieving that cohesive and elevated look. When choosing handles, you should consider their finish, shape, contrast and features to enhance the style of your kitchen. Handles quickly draw the eye, blending form and function to deliver the designer's vision.

Winning mood board

Are all-white, handleless kitchens a thing of the past? What coloured cabinetry is here to stay?

I appreciate the popularity and the allure of minimal, all white kitchens that exude a timeless elegance. However, my absolute favourites are the kitchens that evoke warmth and comfort, using the natural beauty of timber mixed with taupe and greige tones, styled with stunning, raw brass fixtures and finishes.

When using this mood board to style a project, what do you see as being the most prominent feature?

The natural stone and its distinctive veins as well as the seamless blend of elements would elevate any project. Momo antique brass and volcano red handles perfectly complement the mood board's colour palette, adding a prominent detail to the design concept.

What materials and finishes do you like to use in your kitchen designs? Is there a design feature you tend to use regularly?

I love to use Quartzite for benchtops and splashbacks. It is a standout stone choice thanks to its stunning colours and impactful veins, reminiscent of luxurious marble.

And when it comes to finishing touches like handles and tapware, I tend to lean towards antique or polished brass for an elevated look.

Do you just advise on styles and how to achieve this or take control of the project styling right down to products bought?

Majority of my interior projects include style direction, fixtures and finishes specifications as well as furniture curation. Each project and client is unique however I always aim to create bespoke and personalised spaces that are tailored to their individual needs. With a holistic approach to design, I take into account my clients’ daily routine, hobbies, and interests to create a space that truly fits their lifestyle. The result is a unique and personal environment that speaks to who they are and what they love..

What are some Momo Handle ranges you’re loving at the moment?

I really like your Arpa and Belt collections

Do you have any upcoming projects featuring Momo Handles that we should look out for?

I'm currently working on a few new build projects down the South Coast. Being engaged right from the start of the build helps to create cohesion throughout the entire home, inside and out.

Starting with the right design elements right from the beginning of the build is crucial to bringing the design vision to life. I am hoping to incorporate Momo handles with their sleek lines and modern aesthetic and I can't wait to see how they bring these two projects to life!
